Why should I use Assisted Living Locators instead of inquiring to communities directly?
Your decision will always be entirely up to you. But, it’s always good to have an expert opinion… especially when it’s free. Our goal is to save you time and simplify the process by narrowing the options to what is viable for you. Massachusetts has a lot of regulations in place for senior living communities. We can help you understand which rules and regulations should affect your decision based on your loved one’s needs.
Why Assisted Living Locators and not an online referral service?
Online referral services typically just blast your information to every community in the area. Your phone is ringing off the hook and you’re more confused than ever. We don’t share your information without your permission, and more often than not, not until you visit the community and provide the information yourself. We are a LOCAL expert – we live and work here exclusively. We have personally been to every community we recommend and have insight to provide to you based on our experiences.
When should I start the process?
No one is excited to talk about moving to a senior living community (except for us). However, it’s always better to start sooner than later. Being proactive is much better than being reactive and being faced with less choices in an emergency situation. But – we can help with either! Planning early will always put you at an advantage to have exactly what you want when the time comes.
How fast can my loved one move to a community or start home care?
We can work with any timeline. Need to move quickly? No problem. Want to take your time? That’s fine too!
What information do I need to start the conversation?
We can always walk you through over the phone or in person. The most important information is generally regarding care needs and preferences, location desired, and financial budget.
What is the difference between independent living and assisted living?
Independent living is typically providing meals, housekeeping, activities and amenities without a personal care attendant or nursing staff present.
Assisted living provides all of the above, but with a 24/7 personal care program and nurse available for at least parts of the day.
Some communities only offer one or the other and some offer both. Let us help you figure out which is best for you.
How do I know if my loved one needs memory care?
A lot of factors should be considered in these situations. When your loved one can no longer express their needs and advocate for themselves without frequent supervision, it may be time for memory care. In Assisted Living, residents need to be able to be safe inside their apartment alone for parts of the day and know when to ask for help. We are happy to help with this distinction.
When is it time to move to a nursing home?
More often than not, an assisted living or memory care can provide the level of care our clients need. Nursing homes (Skilled Nursing Facilities) are recommended when there is a true medical need. Nursing homes are also often recommended when a resident must rely on Masshealth or medicaid to fund their care. However, there may be other options we can discuss.
How much does senior living cost?
Senior living in Massachusetts generally starts around $3,000 per month and can be over $10,000 per month depending on the community.
